OakmontGamer Privacy policy
This policy covers the OakmontGamer desktop app and the gaming panel at gaming.oakmonttechnologies.com. The general OAKMONT policy at oakmonttechnologies.com/privacy covers the account, billing and the website itself, and applies alongside this one.
Who we are
The data controller is Oakmont Technologies LLC, 5511 Parkcrest Dr. Suite 103, Austin, TX 78731, USA. For any privacy matter write to admin@oakmonttechnologies.com.
The short version
- The app works fully offline. Without a linked account and without the anonymous stats switch, the only thing it asks our server for is updates.
- Linking an account, cloud sync, anonymous stats, shared profiles and share cards are each your choice and each can be turned off.
- We keep summaries, never frame logs, never file paths, never your Windows user name.
- We do not sell personal data and the app shows no ads.
What stays on your PC
Everything the app measures is stored in %APPDATA%\OakmontGamer: hardware details, game profiles, session recordings with frame times, lag reports, the change journal, settings and logs. To do its job the app reads the list of running processes, performance counters, driver and Windows event log entries around a game session (driver resets, hardware errors, game crashes), display and network adapter settings, and config files of supported games and launchers. This is read locally and is not uploaded unless a section below says so.
The token that links the app to your account is kept in Windows Credential Manager.
What the app sends when you have not linked anything
- Updates and data files. The app asks gaming.oakmonttechnologies.com for a newer version and for signed data files (driver table, presets, server list). The request carries the app version and your IP address, as any web request does.
- Network tests you start. Latency checks send pings to a public DNS server. The connection test downloads from and uploads to Cloudflare's speed test. The DNS benchmark queries Cloudflare, Google and Quad9. The game server test pings Valve's relay addresses (the list comes from Steam's public API) and connects to Amazon Web Services regional endpoints. These companies see your IP address and nothing else from us.
- Links you click. Driver pages, guides and the panel open in your browser.
Anonymous stats (off until you switch it on)
If you turn on anonymous stats, the app reports each result of its own A/B tests: app version, graphics card and processor model, memory size bucket, Windows build, the game name, which tweak was tested, the measured change in percent, and whether the tweak was kept. No account, no device identifier, no IP address and no time finer than the day is stored with it. Because these rows are not tied to you, we cannot find or delete yours afterwards. Turning the switch off stops further reports and discards anything not yet sent.
Linked account and cloud sync (optional)
Linking the app to your OAKMONT account stores a random install identifier, the name you give the PC and the app version.
With sync on, the app uploads, between game sessions and never during one:
- hardware summary (processor, graphics card, memory size, Windows build, whether it is a laptop) and driver versions;
- the result of the last connection test;
- a summary of each session: game, start time, length, frame rate figures, stutter counts, the lag report with its causes, the Oakmont Score, and crash events with their kind and time. Lag causes can name the driver or background program that was involved;
- the optimizer's decisions and before/after results;
- in-game settings the app knows for your games, with their current and recommended values, and your display refresh rate;
- a backup of your profiles and app settings.
Before upload, file paths are cut down to file names and your Windows user name is removed. Raw frame logs are never uploaded.
You can switch sync off, export everything, and delete the data of one PC or of the whole account, from the app (Settings > Account) or the panel (Privacy). Unlinking a PC revokes its token.
Oakmont AI (optional, costs credits)
When you ask for an AI report, chat answer, plan or diagnosis in the panel, the synced data for that PC and game, and the text you type, are sent to a language model through our model gateway. When the model runs outside our own servers, the prompt is redacted first. Answers are stored with your account so they can be shown again, and are included in export and deletion. We do not use your gaming data to train models.
The AI never changes anything on your PC. A plan sent to the app is listed there and runs only after you confirm it on that PC.
Things you choose to make public
- Share cards. A public link to one session, one result or one AI report. The card is a frozen copy without your name or the PC's name. Hardware names appear only if you tick them. You can stop a link at any time.
- Shared profiles. A game profile you publish, with the handle and description you enter and your graphics card, processor and memory size. Executable names and paths are removed. You can delete it at any time.
Remote actions
From the panel you can ask a linked PC to run a check or apply a plan. The app shows the request and does nothing until you approve it on the PC.
Weekly e-mail (off until you switch it on)
If you opt in, we send a weekly summary to your account e-mail. Every message has an unsubscribe link.
How long we keep it
- Synced data, AI answers, share cards and shared profiles: until you delete them or the account is deleted.
- Anonymous stats: kept without a time limit; they identify nobody.
- Link codes: 15 minutes.
- Security and access logs, which include IP addresses: 90 days.
- Account, billing and invoice data: as set out in the general OAKMONT policy.
Your rights
You may request access, correction, export, restriction or deletion of your personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Most of this is self-serve in the app and the panel. If you are in the EU you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Legal bases under the GDPR: contract for the features you turn on, consent for anonymous stats, public sharing and the weekly e-mail, and legitimate interests for security and for keeping the service running.
Uninstalling
Removing the app leaves %APPDATA%\OakmontGamer in place; delete the folder to remove local data. Cloud data is removed from the panel or by deleting the account.
Changes
We will update this page when the app starts or stops collecting something, and change the date at the top.
This is a general policy and not legal advice.
